Litecoin Revs Up at Colorado DMV: Driving the Future of Payments

Residents of Colorado can now use Litecoin, along with three other cryptocurrencies – Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Bitcoin Cash – when making a payment with the DMV online.

To use this feature, when processing payments for services such as driver's license renewals, vehicle registrations, and other DMV-related transactions online, Coloradans can simply choose the PayPal option. They will then be redirected to PayPal’s interface where they can choose their preferred cryptocurrency – in this case, litecoin – to settle the payment.

PayPal subsequently converts the amount of litecoin (inclusive of the transaction and any associated fees) to US dollars, and the DMV receives this as the final payment.

Maybe someday in the future, the DMV will just accept Litecoin natively onchain, but this is the first step.
